Bike with Pike 2010

The 2010 edition of Bike with Pike sponsored by Frontier Pathways Scenic Byway, is capped at 300 riders! Come spend this Labor Day Weekend in the Wet Mountain Valley for one of the best bike rides in the State of Colorado!

Inspired by the mountains and valleys famous explorer Zebulon Pike admired and explored, Bike with Pike Westcliffe Adventure is a series of annual recreational events for the whole family. Our premier event, The Bike with Pike Century, is a fall charity bicycle ride that offers several routes include a 100-mile fully supported century ride that travels from the gorgeous Wet Mountain Valley in Westcliffe through the rugged Wet Mountains to Colorado City and back. Other rides offered include a metric century (69 miles) and 24 mile out-and-back rides that follow along the same route as the Century and a fun filled guided family ride that will encircles the old mining district north of the towns of Westcliffe and Silver Cliff and includes stops for lemonade and mining interpretation. Funds raised from this event support the Frontier Pathways Scenic & Historic Byway and All Aboard Westcliffe, local non-profit organizations that support our regions scenic and historic character.

Beyond the interstate . . . beyond the hustle of Colorado’s exciting Front Range cities . . .

there is a world of natural beauty and off-beat surprises.

This land beckons visitors with a sense of adventure. Come visit the real Colorado.

See Frontier Pathways Scenic & Historic Byway.

Full of vast natural and cultural variety, this part of southern Colorado was home to the nation’s earliest explorers, trappers and traders. Hardscrabble, Pueblo, Greenhorn, Buzzard's Roost, Fowler’s Lookout are names that evoke the earliest European settlements in the Rocky Mountain West.

In the 1870s, homesteaders, ranchers and miners established their roots in the foothills, surrounded by the lush Wet Mountain Range and the jagged Sangre de Cristo Mountains. At the same time, the largest steel operation in western America settled in Pueblo. Colorado Fuel and Iron company (CF&I) attracted families from all over the world, leaving Pueblo with a diversity of cultures and intact ethnic neighborhoods.

This rich history is infused throughout the Frontier Pathways Scenic & Historic Byway. In addition, the Byway offers over 100 miles of scenic beauty, numerous museums and recreational opportunities. Both a state and national Byway, the tour climbs from the high plains, through Hardscrabble Canyon, by breathtaking mountain vistas, to quaint mountain towns, returning to Pueblo’s upbeat urban atmosphere.
